Love Poem: My Blue Valentine

My Blue Valentine

What happens when love is no longer new
When the years have chased romance away
Replaced by all that we must do

What happens when love is worn and gray
When there doesn’t seem to be a need
For silly cards to come my way

What happens when the memories fade
Of bubble baths and chilled Champagne
With compliments no longer paid

Sometimes, my Valentine is blue
But then, I think of other things,
I think of what love really is, I think of you

Savoring each minute with you still by my side
     A feeling of contentment,
Of achievement, even pride

A bond which can’t be broken
Built on years of silent trust
A love that’s heard and yet unspoken

So yes, the color of my heart, this year, is blue
     Not because I’ve been forgotten,
Because, my Valentine is true
