Love Poem: Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas

She stood at her window,
looking out on the world,
alone this Christmas,
this frightened young girl.

The night had come,
without making a sound,
as the snow began falling,
lightly powdering the ground.

Only eighteen,
when she said I Do,
her childhood sweetheart,
and their love so true.

Ready to see,
this world as one,
planning their first Christmas,
so much left undone.

Then one day,
that dreaded letter arrived,
orders to leave,
and she held it and cried.

When he came home,
he held her close,
trying to comfort her,
reminding her, why he had to go.

He told her softly,
I love you so,
but I am a soldier,
this is what I chose.

Decorate our tree,
in red, white, and blue,
and this time next year,
I'll be back home with you.

Merry Christmas to our Military,
their families, and friends.
We love you all,
and our prayers we send......
