Love Poem: Maxine

Maxine

You are the hound the stags of history ran before
I feared your coming before you came
Your panting breath upon my heels
The flames of desires
No tropic rain can quench
At nights from distant pasts
You call my name
And I in sleep or waking keep the refrain
Of memory humming on the shores of thought
Over and over and again.
Where shall I find you who seek my demise
How can escape you
That my desire pursues
What is it that calls me back again
Honey lips from hibiscus hour
Hips undulating
Like the Blue Mountain misted with power
Is it some treasure in love
Undiscovered unknown
Or is it old age
Surfing the the fleeting sands with rage
To be the swan singing
In the hunter's cage?
