Matchbox Memories

The other day my little boy
Refused to hold my hand
I knew the day was coming
But my eyes teared up and then

He said how bout I just call you dad
I'm not little anymore
Then my thoughts went back to yesterday
And our time playing on the floor

I still remember our matchbox memories
Back then I was his hero
The strongest he'd ever seen

I'm not sure what went faster
His car or years it seems
But I'll miss being called his daddy
And building matchbox memories

I know it sounds cliche
But years go by like days
So enjoy every second
That you can today

Cause tomorrow he'll be grown up
And walking out the door
Those memories are all I'll have
Till he visits me once more

I'll still hang on to our matchbox memories
Back when I was his hero
The strongest he'd ever seen

Though time can never take away
The pride he's given me
I still miss being called his daddy
And our matchbox memories
