Love Poem: Mary

Mary

"Now, see what you made me do"
That's what he always said
After he shoved her to the floor
Or banged the wall with her head

Mary never understood
Why he had changed
He once was kind and gentle
Now he seemed deranged

Perhaps it was the liquor
Mixed with the dope
She used to try to help him
But now she had lost all hope

She always hid the bruises
From everyone she knew
But one day she'd had enough
And planned what she'd do

That night when he came home
Drunk, as usual, and mean
Mary ran to her room
And got the gun unseen

Mary shot him in the chest
And as the bullet flew
She smiled sweetly at him and said,
"Now, see what you made me do."
