Love Poem: Martyr

Martyr

Beloved, I see you warding off death,
Dressed in gold light, a rival to the sun,
Rimmed with a smile that will make reapers fret
Should weavers snip the thread of life undone.

When death preys and lost embers greet your eyes,
Frail as I am, I shall fight on my knees,
Bargain with death so I could watch you rise
Even though I dwell in a dark abyss.

Beloved, your eyes cause flowers to bloom
And your lips stir the silent birds to sing.
By your presence, deep shadows fail to loom.
If you falter, so should the life you bring.

In your name, I die for you to be free.
Here, in the dust, I proclaim victory.
