Lust's Call

Within the shadows of desire,
I feel the pull of wanton fire.
A flame that burns within my soul,
A hunger that I can’t control.

Temptation whispers in my ear,
And fills my heart with want and fear.
It calls to me with honeyed words,
And lures me in with sultry curves.

But though the passion may be sweet,
The price I pay is just too steep.
For lust is like a bed of thorns,
That pierces deep, and leaves me torn.

I feel its grasp around my heart,
And know that I must play my part,
To fight the urge and turn away,
And tame the beast that longs to play.

For lust will never satisfy,
It always leaves me feeling dry.
An empty shell with nothing left,
But shame and guilt and heart bereft.

The dreams of passion fade to grey,
And leave me feeling lost and stray.
The throes of lust may feel like love,
But in the end, they push and shove.

They leave me wanting something more,
A deeper love that I adore.
For lust may take, but never give,
And in its grip, I cannot live.

So I must turn and walk away,
And find my strength another day.
For lust may call, but I will not yield,
And in my heart, a love revealed.

I’ll search for passion pure and true,
And know that when it comes in view,
My heart will sing and soul will soar,
And I’ll be whole forevermore.

For though the lure of lust may sting,
Its impact will not mean a thing.
For true love is what fills my heart,
And gives my life a purpose smart.

So let the flames of lust subside,
And let my heart be purified.
For in the end, a love renowned,
Will come and lift my soul off-ground.
