Love's Obligation

Just what do we really owe someone we love
There's no way to know all of their needs,
And knowing, still foolish to take on this goal,
Better luck with babe floating in reeds!

For how is it loving to solve other’s tasks,
Should we short circuit lessons God planned
For them to work through is a strange point of view
If one’s life isn’t just a wasteland?

Is faithfulness part of love’s “noblesse oblige”
And if so what does faithfulness mean?
Must you then subscribe to impossible goals
All to mitigate problems unseen?

For love is not born in a full body cast
That can leave you without wiggle room,
But freedom that honors all you’re meant to be,
Not allergic to you in full bloom!

But if you desire this, you must also give,
Insecurities all set aside,
Your home never built with locked windows and doors
And love’s freedom the source of your pride.
