Lover's Goodnight

Lover’s Goodnight

I walked in the door, slowly closing it behind.
Careful not to awake you as you sleep.
Laying there like an angel on a cloud, I sit next to you
Gently pulling the blankets from your head, I lean over and kiss you
With a mumble you stretch your arms towards the heavens
and open your eyes slightly. "I love you" is the only words you say.
With a sigh your eyes close and a smile comes across your face.
I now know you have let me enter your dreams.
I could be a cop serving and protecting you,
Or maybe I am your prince riding up on my white steed come to rescue you.
I slowly draw back and remove myself from the edge of the bed.
Silently I remove my clothing and slide in next to you.
Careful not to disturb your somber sleep.
I slowly put my arm around you and draw you in closer to me.
As I close my eyes and fall asleep,
My mind fills with thoughts of you.......
A smile comes across my face and "I love you" escapes from my lips....
