Lovelorn Arrows

Lovelorn Arrows

No flutter heard
Nor, seen, a stir,
No flight, of bird
Did, there, occur,
No feathered leaves
To a kiss, endow,
Just silent trees
Of vacant bough.

No song of thrush
Nor murder of crow,
No lover's hush
With cupid's bow,
No flock of sparrows
Shall dart and flit
Where lovelorn arrows
No more do hit.

No flap of wing,
Nor preen of breast,
No more to sing
Of a brooding nest,
But to fly away
As lovebirds part,
To where I lay
With broken heart.
