Love You Freely

Across the room, you sat as the teacher came to class
Your bright eyes met mine in a longing gaze,
Brown pools of dust lit up by the suns heat were what I dreamed
When I look deep into yours and you into mine for eternity it seemed.
With the loud ring of the bell, the sound of lunchtime chatter, we sat apart.

Your light brown hair swayed to the wind, you paid me no mind.
Today your hand lingered close to mine, so close yet far.
Sometimes lovers and at other nothing but two strangers, that what we were.
I tasted lemons, enjoying the feeling of your lips on mine,
then emptiness as the closet door opens to the world we left behind.

I watched as they made each other laugh, hoping it was us;
Me making you laugh, your melodious laughter filling the hall.
Living in a world of ours where nobody else matters.
A reality that I longed for, to be seen as we are and not have to hind.
Alas, this is all but a dream in my mind playing on repeat.

For our love is forbidden, shunned, and shamed. A crime,
But how are we wrong when all we do is love each other dearly.
Why, can we not love freely as I see others do?
Why, do we hind behind painted smiles and tinted expressions?
As they call out others brave enough to show themselves.

Our story is differently written, unlike any other.
One can be seen at first glace while the other hinds,
between the lines of white lies and frost-covered pages.
We shared passion and a romance like no others,
hidden from the untrusting eyes of others.

Because they did not understand these feelings between us.
They feared us, for we were different against what they called normal.
So all I can do is wait and long for a different world:
Where I can be me and you can be you and finally,
have the courage to love each other freely.
