Love Went West

Like humans do, it packed its bags and opened the door.
I was speechless, and my heart was broken at the core.

It walked across the lawn and opened the gate.
There was nothing further to discuss or debate.

It was real, and about that, there was no doubt.
But my heart uttered one of the deepest pouts.

From a second-floor window, I had nothing to say.
I stood there and sadly watched it slowly walk away.

Like mortal do, it boarded the car and headed west.
I understood and proceeded to handle my stress.

Every cloud in my brown eyes had quickly turned grey.
I wish at least that I had said something more that day.

54 years have passed, and fortunately, I got over it.
Navigating life always takes courage and lots of grit.
