Love Lost Love Found

I awoke all alone; she left me late
last night, and my aching heart was breaking.
She simply slipped away, dodging debate,
my whole world wavered, then started quaking.

Her sweet scent still lingering in the air,
I instantly regretted our first fight.
She surmised shadows sometimes do not care
about the sun's fate, though they require light.

I found a note written with words of hope,
tethered to tender thoughts and secrets shared.
And my hopes soared, for her words wove a rope
that pulled me from despair, for she still cared.

Mortified, I rushed to her, head hung low,
pleading, please, not to throw our love away.
And asked why she had decided to go
and what I could do to get her to stay.

She scolded me, yet also calmed my fears,
saying, our love is not over, only paused.
And as apologetic eyes leaked tears,
I begged forgiveness for the hurt I'd caused.

I held her hand, hugged her, and stole a kiss,
there at the edge of fate, where futures fall.
And basked in forgotten feelings of bliss,
placing her feelings and love above all.
