Love Is Our Metaphor

It’s five minutes to the end of time
And quarter past forever
Here I stand still loving you
Waiting for the light to change

You weep to me in tears of silence
You seduce me with your eyes
Me, I’ve got a cramp in my leg
I cannot walk away
And the wind howls hollow in the night
Rain falls just like a drunk man cries
Remember better days
We have lingered here awhile
Past the point of no return
Whoever said you can’t go home again
Never lived in my neighborhood
I take your hand and pull you along
Like a tail trailing a Japanese kite
You flutter like a gale driven leaf
But keep me steady on course
And morning cracks just like an egg
Scrambled yellow clouds fry in the sky
It’s going to be a hot day
And bound by love, you and I
Are tied to opposite ends of a very long string.
