Love Poem: What of Love

What of Love

You took me to that private place in my heart
where sanity can drift and unravel
and asked me to set you free.
Your tears flooded my heart and resonated there,
forcing me to feel the weight of their plea.
You had me wandering through a minefield of emotions,
reflecting on the meaning of happiness and pain...
If love is but an illusion that hope conjures and promotes
and it's relevant to our point of view,
how can we, as seekers of love,
believe what we find, and is it worth looking for?
Sometimes, life seems so receptive to our wants
and yet non-responsive to our dreams.
Seeking answers buried within questions yet to be explored,
I start with who I am and who I wish to be.
And I'm left questioning what of love,
does it mean anything?
The pain of love released, to another heart,
burns like no other pain.
To have found someone as pure and loving as you
and then to willingly give you up,
is an almost impossible task.
And I struggle with feelings of helplessness
in the face of reality,
as I watch you walk away
and not look back.
