Love Poem: Love Hurts

Love Hurts

Love hurts

So strangely quiet where are you
Gone silently like the morning dew
Birds lament whistle your name
Sinister feeling part of the game
Need to find you my world in pain
Loneliness hurts its victim again and again

No hint of leaving no formal goodbye
You declared your love and so did I
Can it be that life was just simple then
Or our love recorded with a fictitious pen
My soul searches for answers so illusive
Persistent melancholy so persuasive

Disquieting thoughts my mind assail
I picture your face as if through a veil
Have you found another rejected me
Like a sinking ship in a boisterous sea
Like a celebrated poet persistently in rhyme
I hear your voice echoing through time

If you are committed elsewhere let it be
But please tell me now set my soul free
Life inexorably goes on or so the sages say
Don’t need a truer love to come my way
I’ve loved I’ve lost carry the scars and pain
Only discontent and haunting memories remain
