Love Beating a Broken Spirit

You treated me so badly, not once did I complain,
You left me alone every night, without considering my pain.
You fooled around with women, thinking I cannot see,
Silently I prayed that you would one day leave.

I’d ask for some money to put food on the table,
You’d scream and shout and say, that I was very able,
You were so blind and cruel; my heart was in pain,
But the day I left, I put your pride to shame.

Three months had passed; you hadn’t realized I’d gone,
Until a friend had asked, if you missed me at all,
You were dazed by the question, couldn’t utter a word,
Your legs stood still, they couldn’t move forward.

You went home screaming my name from the door
No answer you got, you knew I’d left for sure,
Your heart beat rapidly and faster every minute,
As you dashed from room to room, hoping I’d still be in it.

The silence, you say, stopped you from calling again,
You then realized, I was tired of your inconsiderate game,
I know you didn’t love me for two years or so,
So why this feeling of emptiness, I don’t know.

You took my love for granted, but I loved you regardless,
You never gave me the chance, even for a little friendship.
Now you want me back, your heart for me to keep,
You praying it’s not too late, to forgive you, isn’t that just neat.
