Love

We as humans say that our love
is the thing that puts us above
the rest of our living world
Our love makes us great and kind
and all others must respect our kind
Were better than the birds the cats the horses
The beavers, the dolphins, eagles and the porpoises
Because of our love
Our Great Compassion
our love
But let me ask you this
Have you ever heard of chicken cats or fish
Having a war
over something as pitiful as oil
Polluter or air water and soil
killing much underwater life
as effectively as stabbing with a knife
But no our love marks us with distinction
Well before man and meteors there was no extinction
We as men have killed many
Only to make room for a JCPenny
All of us earth strangers
Are the only species to cause another to be endangered
We pollute the land on which we live
always taking never to give
And we men say that we love
Where is the love in the kill
just to have blood to fill
on our hands
as we rob our lands of animals
through hunting
"i am ready for love" says India Arie
but we as a species are not at all ready
" all of the joy and the pain"
All pain and no joy
as we stop the blood pumping through veins
We have caused the shed to shed acidic tears
we never comfort a childs tears
We who have such love
came to such discrimaination
That we needed the Emancipation Proclamation
We caused a great man's assassination
what need do animals have of segregation
did love create the gun
a tool to kill our brothers son
did love create the knife
a tool to take are fathers life
We humans may have love
but we also have
hate
and no animal has that
