Love Poem: Love

Love

Love doesn’t have a rulebook,
There are no rights or wrongs,
There’s poems that describe it,
And plenty of love songs.
It doesn’t always feel the same,
Though clear when it arrives,
Cos all your thoughts and feelings,
It suddenly then drives.
It isn’t always linear,
Don’t know when it will come,
It’s not always straightforward,
But to feel it’s never dumb.
It isn’t just as simple ,
As boy meets girl, things progress,
The happy ever after,
Not assured, more to address.
There may be complications,
And more factors to unweave,
But when you feel it’s with you,
You don’t want to see it leave.
Don’t know when it will happen,
Or what love gets up to next,
Can start as simple messages,
Or just a single text.
But when love’s in the background,
It can lead to so much more,
It doesn’t take account of,
Anything that’s gone before.
It may be pretty sexy eyes,
Or captivating smile,
Or how she does engage you,
As you’re chatting for a while.
It may be personality,
It may be how she cares,
You don’t expect it to arrive,
Then you’re caught unawares.
It’s sometimes unrequited,
And that can be quite sad,
But when it’s mutual and shared,
It makes you feel so glad.
Nobody tells you how it feels,
When it’s come, you just know,
And from a little acorn,
Love’s tree can swiftly grow.
If it’s there don’t need encouragement,
No helpful push or shove,
The feeling in your heart and mind,
Will tell you you’re in love,
If you’re good at writing poems,
You’ll describe it in nice words ,
Or if you are an artist,
Maybe you’ll paint two love birds.
But those are just analogies,
The thought I’ll leave is this,
My heart and mind say I’m in love,
This rhyme’s aim - say what love is.
