Love Poem: Love...

Love...

Love is beautiful they say
Love is pure and champagne-sweet
Love is strawberries dipped in chocolate
Love is holding hands
Palms pressed flesh to flesh
Love is gazing into each other’s eyes
Without feeling the need to blink
Love is tattooing the name of your lover on your skin
In bold and permanent black ink

What they do not tell you is that Love has two faces
Two origins in Heaven and Hell;
It dwells in both those places
For Love is not just a beautiful sonnet
It is a screaming crescendo of caterwauling souls
It is a bright full moon and the black night cradling it
Love is the flower and the snake beneath
Love is poison and poison’s antidote
Love is a bloody dagger sheathed in a blood-red rose
Love is the most exquisite pain
The cruelest of unfathomable joys…
If you seek it you will never find it
But if you sit still and sink into despair
Like a unicorn laying his head in a virgin’s lap…
Love will creep up and find you there…
