Love Poem: Lost In the Wind

Lost In the Wind

She had emerald eyes and golden hair
A defiant look and an easy smile
She spoke softly in a Southern style
As we discovered we had things to share

The time passed quickly as we fell in love
Though there were times when we seemed far apart
I sensed the sadness of a broken heart
But the healing force lay in stars above

Then came the day I never thought to see
Low clouds masked the sunrise and she was gone
I feared I'd never see another dawn
And lost the feel of who I'd ever be

It was a love built on a broken heart
She fled to her past and broke another
I gave her my all - she chose the other
No point wondering just how to restart

Now I have some time on my hands, my friend,
And the bottle sits here on the table
Have a drink and we'll peel off the label
While I tell you of love lost in the wind
