Lost in a Memory

My mind is drifting back in time today
To the moments we shared together
We captured it for awhile when we were feeling sublime.

I was coming out of an ended relationship
Jaded and confused
I hope you understand I was spent
Had nothing to offer to anyone, nada left to lose
I drove you away when you were heaven sent

I needed to blow off steam
And find myself anew
Only problem now is if I could I would love to see you

It's not in me to try to shatter what you have built
Just want you to know that I love you for you and
Yearn for your happiness, which you have found

I totally blew it. The guilt is mine.
You're a man of character who takes the high road in how you proceed.

Reflecting on it now, turning you away, was foolish to do. You gave me the best and now I barely make do

I will always love you and admire you from afar
I ran you ragged and hurt you only because I needed time to heal. You have a family now and a glow about you that I could never measure up to and wouldn't dare try to steal.

God bless you, my friend. I'll love you to the end. Aware our paths will never cross again

I take comfort in knowing you once thought the world of me, and I won't soon forget how you cared for me when I felt unlovable and empty.
