Lost and Bound

LOST AND BOUND

One furtive glance, no second chance
her shadow shortens icily
she feigns contented nonchalance
while I endure ignominy
confined within a clutching heart
devoid of any letting go.
Love’s humble lies a bleeding start,
a shallowness allowed to grow.

She dons a wily, wistful grin
a taunting twist of curling lip
love’s challenge – find me – try again
caress my cup - take one more sip.
It seems she’s left me in the lurch
consumed by love’s ascetic search.
