Love Poem: Listening Is Loving

Listening Is Loving

I fell in love with someone
But I was still alone
Surviving solitude, listening
To the songs of seclusion
Silence fading into my blood
Isolating me from even the courage
To allow tears to fall, small
Insights into my private yearnings

I fell in love with someone
Who wasn’t meant for me it seemed
He was with another who needed him more
Than the longing who prompted me
To erase even my dreams of being with him
The man who was quiet and confidant
Filled with an honesty that kindled my smile
A sincerity that erased all my doubts
A kindness that assured me he cared

Yet, the time wasn’t right
Alone, I walked into the dark night,
Wistful and wishful, welcoming
The hush that fell over my heart

For many years, I was alone
Surviving the fears and tears, the years
Of silent dreams who were fading
The ones that never quite made it
Into my life, where his memory survived

I fell in love with someone
Who, after years of doubting, sought me out,
Stirred the memories, the flames
Passions that had been stored away
Inside the spirit who had prayed for the day
When he would come back to me,
Kissing away all the darkness, carrying a light
Joyful, together we would go on…

I fell in love with someone
Who remembered my words, my dreams,
The way that I smiled, my past
The feelings inside, the ones I survived
By simply ignoring their rhythmic sounds
The music that I would share with him,
As we swirled and swayed and twirled,
Dancing throughout history…
Because I knew that he had listened to me
He heard even the worst I believed
And he loved the way I had only dreamed it could be!
