Love Poem: Linger No More

Linger No More

Mark me quick and nothing more
take what you will from this life you tore
I will not let you stay and have your little way
it's too cruel to let you have your nasty little say
you leer at me from the shadows behind
the elms and the ash tree loom over me in kind
no rest for the weary comes to me
because this is what you gave me lovingly
I guess all things must come to an end
and so too must this my old friend
linger not here in my heart
for you have betrayed me and played your part
walk away from this grave of sin
I know you will find other men
so abandon this old falling-down house
our home is not together and I am not your spouse
you may leave me here in the company of your ghost
and remember that it was I who loved you the most
