Love Poem: Lines Written On the Eve of Valentine's Day

Lines Written On the Eve of Valentine's Day

To whom shall I declare my truest faith,
When 14th knocks on layman's humble home,
Bewitched by cruel Cupid's loveless wraith,
That stops me from exploring Kubla's dome?
I pray thee, thither journey we along,
To find the best essence of amity,
We both shall sing the choicest Yorkshire song,
And dance on beats of juvenile levity.
Can there be not a moment of respite,
From the coarse ailments of the sullen town?
A sudden truce to the never-ceasing fight,
Nor cherished end to the pain of a clown?
Carry me through all these bits of joyous frames,
And lift my spirit to the highest flames.
