Line of Fire

I'm Stuck in the Line of Fire

In all the years I’ve been alone, in all the days that I’ve spent, staring at a wall,
 I’ve learned a few things.
I’ve learned that when you’re not perfect, no one wants you. I’ve learned that when you’re different,
people get scared. And when people get scared, they do one of two things.
Fight or flight.
It’s human nature in three words. Fight or flight.
You either run, or you stand your ground.
People rarely control this.
Some people can force themselves to fight when they’d rather run.
Other people choose to run for their safety, because even though they want to fight they know that they,
or someone they care for,
will get hurt.
And still there are others, who don’t seem to care. Don’t care about others, that is.
They don’t fight, they can’t flight.
They make a line of people in front of themselves to protect them.
What would you do if you were put in that line? Forced to protect people,
who would rather shoot you in the head than miss their morning tea?
Worse yet, what if, for some reason, you fall in love.
And that person, the only person who doesn’t cringe at the sight of you, or run when you say hello,
is put in that line? How do you protect them,
how do you tell them to fight, when you yourself,
 can’t do anything but run?
