Life Sentence

Running and hiding, feeling alone
life as the turtle with a shell for a home.
The streets are your circus where you perform as a clown
while everyone's laughing at your silly frown.
There's your role as the trickster where mag-ic-aly
the truth remains hidden there up your sleeve.
looking in alleys for things that you want
where only there's shadows who at you will taunt.
There in that dark room , that place where you go
is your self imposed prison with no chance of parole.
Somebody out there could have a key
but it can't be used unless you agree.
There's executive pardon or forgiveness of sin
it's all so much better if you have a friend.
That room will still be there, so will that wall
but the door will be unlocked to come if you're called.
Let someone love you find someone who cares
someone who'll give you a life you can share.
You may chose to ignore this, discard what you read
but you'll die in that prison having never been freed.
With freedom come chances beyond your control
on the edge where life dances is where you should go.
So call on the phone or jump on a bus
yell from the corner, that you're willing to trust.
The next thing you know as you look around
you won't have to search, you've already been found.
