Life Comes and Goes

Down the street as I was drifting with the city's human tide
It occurred that perhaps a million were in this streaming flow
And I..I knew not one and cared not that I was here alone
For there were things to do and puzzles to solve before I died

Oh, that was long before I loved and then in this city cried
For she was perfect but she was gone and I..I know not why
She had blue eyes and golden hair and then she had chosen me
To walk these streets among the million and I swelled up with pride

This city by the bay glistened when she walked here by my side
Fog horns moaned as the mist rolled in and covered all in slate grey
While we laughed and we flirted until we didn't anymore
Then, oh, this city has haunted me as I had time to bide

The years flew by and now I am an old man and rheumy eyed
And I cherish the time that I could make a blue eyed blonde glow
Memories of that heady time have faded and the tears dried
