Love Poem: Letting Go

Letting Go

One of the purest act of love
that a person could ever show,
is to give someone the key to your heart,
then separate hands and let them go

Yes, yes
It is so hard,
the tears will tell you all you need to know
But love isn't always about being easy
You wish it was,
just saying it doesn't make it so

How did a promising situation come to this,
what could've happened to cause this sad conclusion
When neither of you did anything wrong,
proves that reality can deal you a card of illusion

When two people meet,
and their lives, for a time, intersect
One may have had their past hurts healed,
while the other hasn't quite moved on yet
One awakes to a bright sunrise,
one still rests in a dark sunset

Such is life,
such as it has always been
The path they're heading towards,
may not be the direction you're going in

Sacrifice sometimes means letting go;
you want to hold on to them so bad,
that's what makes it so difficult

You know this in your heart,
and it hurts to feel this
as the separation starts

You hope they find the love they deserve,
and you tell them this as they leave
And on cold lonely nights as the wind blow,
you hope they're holding your key close to their heart,
and never letting it go
