Love Poem: Learning To Fly

Learning To Fly

Sometimes I lie awake at night;
Stare out the window at the sky.
The stars eternally seem bright
And in my mind, I cry.

Sometimes I wonder whether this
Has been one wond'rous fantasy.
But having given one sweet kiss
I know how I was free.

The stars shine silver to my sight.
The window open, breezy night.
I stare in wonder at the sky
And try hard not to cry.

Because
Dreams come like ghosts that still haunt the mind's eye.
And I'll always remember you.
Learning to fly.
How could I forget you. I cannot deny
That I'll always remember you.
Learning to fly.

Such longing lives in my desire
To be with you. To know myself.
The silver spark that brought the fire.
But night is nothing else

The world is ordinary now.
That magic element is gone.
But still I lie, lamenting how
The world has lost its song.

The stars are beautiful tonight
And out the glass, a breezy sight.
I know that I can't help but cry
In longing for the sky.

I still remember
The wind. The breeze upon my face.
The fire's dying ember.
The memories I can't replace.

These dreams come like ghosts that still haunt my mind's eye.
And I'll always remember you.
Learning to fly.
I'll never forget you. For you I still cry.
And I'll always remember you.
Learning to fly.
My dreams of times past still can never deny
That I'll always remember you.
Learning to fly.
