Love Poem: Last Time

Last Time

It always seems to be raining
even though it doesn’t fit
and your eyes just see the sidewalk
of a midnights abandoned street
while you drag your heart behind you
with all the pain of a broken leg
the bitter taste of the morning
is something you would sooner try to forget

It’s not something that you wanted
it’s not anything that you planned
the only real torment
was hanging on till the bitter end
standing at the bus stop with nothing else to see
nothing but the cold wet night
seen through the screws of cold hard tears
empty eyes refusing reality and stabbed by memories

No you’re never going to sacrifice
never yourself again
you’re never gonna do this for love
or break on a crooked knee
never for something that is not
compassion in every kiss you gave
designed for liberation
only shoveled dirt onto your grave

With no where else to turn and no where else to hide
stamp down on no tomorrow
with vodkas black daybreak tide
capitulate to the twisted knife now buried in your soul
and for love the light behind your shadow slowly falls
slowly closed is surely something you will know
you won’t ever forget her
and she won’t ever let you go

Send it down to quench the burning thirst
the empty bottle plagiarizes all of your remorse
her place she made around you will never be filled again
as the hours slash the silence
on the echoes of her name
only for love some permanence can remain
the midnight streets where no one walks
is where your love will forever be the same
