Just the Two of Us

On this Thursday evening... I'm enjoying precious time
Spending time with Pierce... a grandson of mine
He's a twelve year old wonder... a charming young lad
Always a pleasure... never naughty, never bad
So I took him for ice-cream... his favorite treat
He topped it with sprinkles... to fancy his sweet
We talked for awhile... about him, about me
Then I thought to myself... he's delightful to see
Our time together... not so much anymore
He's at the age... it's girls he looks for
And I'm getting older too... have my hands full of work
But we wrote this poem together... and he smiled a smirk
Then we hugged each other goodnight... time for our rest
He said "I love you pops- you sure are the best"
I said " thank you grandson... but no, that's not true
I think someone's better... and that someone is you

A collaboration with myself and my twelve year old grandson Pierce
