If You Would Have Compassion

If you would have compassion for others
  First have compassion for yourself

Stop beating up on yourself
If from the straight and narrow you stray
If you get off of your diet for a day
If not every dragon you slay

Acknowledge your errors; move on
  They're not worth lingering upon

Rather, tell yourself that you are good
That you always do your best like you should
That you'd take in strangers and stray animals if you could
That someday youll build your family that cabin in the woods

Soon you'll do all the things that you've planned
You'll set up your child's lemonade stand
  You'll kick start your teen's rock-n-roll band
You'll help them build their castles in the sand

For now that on you yourself compassion have shown
Its seeds on beloved others will surely be sown
