Love Poem: If I Were An Elephant

If I Were An Elephant

If I were an Elephant
It would be a benefit
I would be strong, and not afraid
My weight, size and sway would make men run away

If I were an Elephant
So much knowledge I could hold in my head, “intelligent”
I could travel and never lose my way
I’d remember where to drink and forage and never stray

If I were an Elephant
I’d swing my trunk back and forth it is so flexible
I could get your scent or touch you oh so delicately
I could pick you up or almost anything
Or break a peanut shell and not the seed
Or reach and forage on the tallest limbs
Trumpet greetings or warn my family
Carry water or have fun spraying you

If I were an Elephant
My family would be close and never abandoned
Always staying together walking side by side
I would purr to articulate my feelings
until time has done some deep healing

If I could just be an Elephant
I would be your friend forever
