Love Poem: If

If

If I could bring into my head
That stupidity is dead,
Walk the street towards the park
Without hearing a bad remark
On the way myself I carry
Or the reason my face is merry.
If I could only make my head
Understand the way I dread
All the mean faces I see
That direct their hate to me
Every morning in the subway,
Every chance I have a say.
If I could only turn the heads
Of the owners of the lands
In which happiness is drained
From children too work strained.
If only I could choose the head
That brings a country better bread.
If only I could earn the power
To make a change in the shower
Of poverty and guilt and suffering
And sadness and death and crying.
If only I could tell the world
That peace can be won with a word…
Love.
