I Saw An Old Friend Today
I dropped in to see an old friend today,
I had forgotten how close we use to be, but anyway.
I just opened His door and I casually walked on in,
I said it’s been a while and You and I used to be close way back when.
I said I’ve been pretty busy, but You know just how that goes,
What’s happening in this crazy world today, well I reckon maybe God only knows.
Just making small talk like old friends often do,
I said there ain’t a whole lot changed, bout the same, nothing really new.
I said reckon maybe I’d best be getting on my way,
It was sure nice talking to You, I’m glad I stopped by today.
I started to leave and I’d just reached for the door,
When He said my door is always open and I’d like to see you more.
He said child I’ll always love you no matter what,
I said Lord please forgive me I guess I just plumb forgot.
He embraced me in His arms and I walked out clean,
At peace with the world, with life, simply serene.
It sure was nice talking with Jesus again and that’s about all I’ve got to say,
And He said if you can’t come and visit at least stop and pray.
