I Promised Not To Call

If my leaving suits you best
then I'll go like all the rest
and never question why we ever tried at all.
But when you told me not to stay
you were crying as you turned away
so I'll honor your last wish... and promise not to call.

You will not sleep well tonight
as you'll wake up to the sight
of my jacket gone and boots not in the hall.
So you'll find yourself alone
and when you go to check your phone,
they'll be no message because...I promised not to call.

I'm a miserable sight as I lie here tonight
With a hand grasping the phone.
But I'm losing the fight to do what is right
As I try to leave you alone.

You will tremble at the thought
about the misery you have bought
and the regret that leaves a person feeling small.
So when you want to hold my hand
you'll have to change your plans
and come and find me because... I promised not to call.

Should you cast away your doubt
and strive to freely seek me out,
you'll find this Cowboy at the ready standing tall.
Until then my will is weak
and I would give anything just to speak
but I gave my word so... I promise not to call.

I'm a miserable sight as I lie here tonight
With a hand grasping the phone.
But I'm losing the fight to do what is right
As I try to leave you alone.

                                The End
