I have had to guard this heart of mine

I have had to guard
this heart of mine
Because of all
the hurt and pain
that I have seen
And even though
a part of me
Would like to
truly love again
It is just going to take
me some more time
Before I can
allow myself
To break down
these
walls of mine
That have been
built up over time
But if I ever do get the
chance to love again
Hopefully some day I will
And I would only hope that
it could be
something that was everlasting
Because then and only then
would I feel like
I was on top of the world again
