Love Poem: I and Me

I and Me

For far to long
I have fought for,
I have struggled for,
I have chased
This abstract notion
This fallacy called
“True Love”

“I” had found it
Or so he thought
What “it” was
Never seemed to stay
Yet it left behind
A sea of doubt
A clouded mind
A heart so numb
So unsure
So insecure
So damaged by
“True Love”

What was “I” to do?
With a heart so numb
So badly molded
Into such a sad
Excuse
Of a heart?

Nothing he thought
“I” pushed through
The nostalgic winter nights
The nostalgic summer days
Yet despite “I’s” endeavors
So clouded
So unsure
So insecure
So damaged
So numb
A heart
Remained

Will “I” ever see “me?”
Will “me” ever see?
Who am “I?”
Who is “me?”
I am who “I” am
Me is who “me” is
So then do
“I” and “me”
Deserve to be
Or will “I” forever be
Without “me?”

For longer still
This question burns
Only now
“True love”
Claims itself to be
However now,
Both “I” and “me”
Can see
Clouded,
Unsure,
Insecure,
Damaged,
Yet they see
Yet they feel

“I” question the feeling
The sight
The insecurities
Even “me” questions it all
Afraid to relapse
Terrified to fail
Can “I” at least try?
Can “I” chase the fallacy called
“True love”
Hoping for “me” to find
Love
