Love Poem: I Am About Trying To Live Better (For the Tell Me About You Contest Sponsored By: Amy Green)

I Am About Trying To Live Better (For the Tell Me About You Contest Sponsored By: Amy Green)

I once was an open book, long ago, when naive.
Before I learned to really look and motives perceive.
But after years of hurting and living life bereaved,
I chose to find my private space…happiness achieve.

Now, as in my childhood days, I always want to know -
Each time I learn something new it sets my face aglow.
Whether visiting a ghetto, mansion, or chateaus,
It matters not where I am when knowledge starts to flow.

I think about creation…ask scientists and God.
And when new inklings hit me I stand amazed and awed.
I like science, art and history; knowing runs broad.
When I think about these things, my mind will soon applaud.

But life is more than knowing…thinking from a bookshelf.
More valuable than witty thoughts one keeps to one's self.
It is richer than imaginings and reason itself.
Goodness found in each life comes from choices made by self.

So, at this time, I ask myself, “What am I about?”
Besides learning about God striving to be devout,
I am about talking softly, teaching without a shout.
Sometimes I fail and need to give myself a time out.

I love to avoid cooking buying yummy take-out!
Unless by chance my family plans a big cook-out!
But count me out if they decide to serve sauerkraut.
Lately, I have loved a fruit and veggie blowout!

It might sound like I am perfect. Not so…without a doubt.
Sometimes I handle conflicts by simply freaking out!
I love to help all others even when I am burnt out.
But sometimes I complain about misery and gout.

I no longer am an open book; meds handled that.
I live in the woods with chickens, goats, and a dog...cats.
I love nature: polecats, muskrats, wildcats, or wombats.
Everything enjoyed except for mosquitoes and gnats.

I am all about: striving, thriving and surviving.
Walking, talking, babbling, but never ever blabbing!
Being with friends, laughing, loving, and sometimes crying.
Painting, singing, and writing in a world bustling.

I am about the simple things loved in everyday life.
Making joyful happiness through every day run rife.
Finding ways to help my friends whenever they feel strife.
Living richer than imaginings…a loving wife.

In everything I try to do; I stop, think, and pray.
Yes, when I cannot find my way to a perfect day.
I bow my head and ask the Lord, “Please lead me today.”
Trying to live better as I go along my way.
