I, the Lover

Mind if I tell you, honestly, I’m really not Into raucous voices and fists raised in anger Who tear down rather than build up …. Call me a lover of what is right and good, Focusing not on negativity, destruction, or even change! I revel in the beautiful things that surround me The sunshine, the flowers, the birds that serenade The smile of the newborn, happy laughter, And good writing … poems that tell a compelling story Sharing the extraordinary someone else has experienced Written in simple terms; I love to travel, to learn There are other fine people in other parts of the world Whose culture is rich, perhaps, even richer than our own Still, I love my country. My America! America, my home. Love triumphs over hate, meanness, and derision, And I want to leave this world knowing I have triumphed!
