Love Poem: Humble Pie

Humble Pie

I worked real hard to get to the top...
moved to Nashville though I was broke.
I use to play at local coffee shops...
hoping I would finally get a shot...
at all that fame and fortune that I hoped for most...
a life of excitement along with some screaming fans...
then I said...

Slice me up a piece of that humble pie...
since the day that caught my eye...
you were selling tickets at a country fair...
you had a simple beauty that I found so rare.

Since then I sing a different tune,
I think that I could fly to the moon...
when at times I feel like I'm a one man show,
with higher dreams that are hard to let go.
Then I say...

Slice me up a piece of that humble pie...
since the day that you caught my eye...
you were selling tickets at a country fair...
you had a simple beauty that I found so rare.

So at times that I think I'm hot...
you wrap your arms around me and give me a grin...
saying true country music has it's own appeal.
It's best when keepin it real.
So I say...

Slice me up a piece of that humble pie...
since the day that you caught my eye...
you were selling tickets at a country fair...
you had a simple beauty that I found so rare.
