How Sweet Was the Love

How sweet was the love of Ollyver.
How rare was his love for me!
Content to just sit next to me, he
loved unconditionally!

How loyal was my dear Ollyver.
He would wait beside the door
to greet me when I came home from work.
He would jump up from the floor!

Into my arms, my small dog would spring.
He’d jump to my arms with glee.
No other pet have I ever had
that trusted so much in me!

How sweet was my love for Ollyver.
How happy was I to know
that he was mine, but how sad was I
when I had to let him go.

I had to give up my doggie, yet
a miracle would occur.
One night I woke. He was on my bed!
I could feel his soft white fur.

Three years had passed since I gave him up.
His visit seemed all too real!
When his soul left the earth, he’d come to me,
and that’s what I really feel.

Dedicated to my miniature Eskimo who I believe visited me on his way
to heaven. Unable to keep him, I gave him to a non-kill organization
and my "visitation" which seemed so real to me occurred around two
years later, when he would have been around 13 years old.
