Love Poem: How Do You Ask a Question

How Do You Ask a Question

How do you ask a question
That you know will end in a fight
That you know will breed anger
But it may put to ease
The sickness I feel
The thoughts that plague me

How do you ask a question
That sits tucked away
In the darkest of corners
But is always present
Always on the brink
Of spoiling and turning things sour

How do you ask a question
That seems so far-fetched
That makes you question yourself
If you’re seeing things not there
If you’re just a little crazy
If maybe there’s truth to it all

But I can’t deny this feeling
Uneasiness that eats at me
Impeding fear of getting crushed
Debating whether I really want to know
Because it’ll ruin everything
How do you ask this question?

I’ve played the role of The Fool before
Being ignorant of what was happening
Blinded by what I thought was love
Unwilling to see the ultimate betrayal
Best friend and lover….of many
I won’t play The Fool again

Please tell me how to ask a question
That puts trust on the line
That puts love on the line
Before it becomes too late
Before it eats me up inside
So I won’t play The Fool again
