Love Poem: Hollow Dreams

Hollow Dreams

One day soon
I'll fly away
With no plans to return
Just the thought
of saying goodbye
fills me with concern
What if now
I've found the one
That I've been waiting for
Just to see you disappear
behind a jetway door

Standing at what seems half way
through this thing called life
I've done my best to be a mom
and fiercely loving wife
Many things about my life
We're not what I'd presumed
Disappointments dulling dreams
Since early youth entombed.

Years of lessons given by
The courtesy of life
Most of which I had to learn
Through deeply saddened strife
Changed the things
I really thought of, so importantly
Landscaping my character
With better eyes to see

Now there's visions
manifesting, Ones about forever
We can't believe how right it feels
Whenever we're together
Is destiny just playing games
And teasing my desires
Or has she come to richly sooth
The scorch of trials fire

On the day I'll fly away
With no plans to return
I hope and pray to see you splay
A broken heart of yearn
That would mean it won't be long
Before my love, you'd follow
That I should rest in peace and know
my dreams of love weren't hollow.
