Hold This Shining Diamond

Chorus:

Hold this shining diamond,
it's your star and moonlight
on those long and dark nights
when I'm far and you show fright;
a brighter one you surely wouldn't have found:
see no distance between these lips and arms!

Verse I

Aren't the distant stars the shining diamonds
of the awesome and mysterious universe...
that God created only for those true lovers,
so they would thank Him with a lovely verse?

Verse II

Sunsets have the pretty colors of roses,
we can pick the ones we like more,
we have ignored them until now, dearest love;
they were all the while in front of us;
from here we see an ocean with waves that gleam...
it might seem that a vision in a wonderful dream!

Volta:

All around is quiet,
someone is playing the violin,
and his music moves us
and makes us cry from emotion;
while the foaming waves
roll and roar...clear skies are ahead;
no reason to hide and be afraid:
no storm is in sight!

Chorus:

Hold this shining diamond,
it's your star and moonlight
on those long and dark nights
when I'm far and you show fright;
a brighter one you surely wouldn't have found:
see no distance between these lips and arms!

Verse III

All we hear is the fluttering wings of shrieking geese,
going for the last flight alongside the warm breeze;
I put down flowers and a shiny diamond in your lap,
curious people walking by stop and gladly clap;
I whisper the words of an improvised poet...
while you are thinking of the paintings of Monet!

Chorus:

Hold this shining diamond,
it's your star and moonlight
on those long and dark nights...
when I'm far and you show fright;
a brighter one you surely wouldn't have found:
see no distance between these lips and arms!
