Love Poem: Hold Me Too Tight

Hold Me Too Tight

I could sleep here if my heart would slow,
Breathing you in, savouring this embrace,
Can't help smiling wrapped in you,
I'm drawn to your eyes as I stare at your face,

You ask me what I'm looking at,
Wide mischievous eyes beam right back into mine,
Kisses erase the need for explanation,
Light fades outside as we intertwine,

This room defines you, love when
I see private toilet rolls piled up by the door,
In the kitchen, solely bread to eat
But video games in stacks on the floor,

Then you, headphones dangling from
Inside whichever casual shirt,
Either ripped or skinny jeans and
Converse improved by time and dirt,

Walk me to your flat and back,
You hold open doors and take my hand,
You don't say it, but neither do I,
Assume that we both understand,

Confused, elated, beautiful,
Feelings are overloading me,
So hold me too tight and kiss me goodbye,
And maybe you'll smother my inadequacy.
