Heroine

It'll be over soon, I'll make our lives better,
Take a deep breath babe, gotta keep it together.
Knocked down and beat up and taken for granted,
And tattooed and scarred by the words that they've chanted.
I'll be your shelter, you're safe in my bed,
Free from the horrible things that were said.
I'll wash you in love and cleanse all your pain,
While you lick at your wounds, all the bruises and sprains.
I hear the cackles, the talk and the laughter,
They doubt we can find our happy ever after.
But we're gonna show them, just what's in store,
We may lose some battles, but we're winning this war.
The roar of a cannon, the blast of a gun,
World War you and me, has already begun.
We aren't soldiers, this isn't our fight,
And ignorant army fires bullets of spite.
But we are at peace, my love in my arms,
Gone from where the hand that feeds you, just harms.
So lay your head on my heart, and rest your weary soul.
And stay with me until, once again, you feel whole.
The way we love and make love is love as love should be,
It's rare and true and beautiful. It's trust and honesty.
And as I nurse you back to health and kiss away the pain,
You tell me I'm your heroine and your demons have been slain.
