Helios and Clytie

Sunflower, accursed, to stand and stare,
And Clytie was her fair begotten name.
Cursed she was to gaze into the sun's glare.

Leucothea was Helios' lady fair,
A love fallen prey to jealousy's game.
Sunflower, accursed, to stand and stare.

Helios' love was lust she did declare,
Harlot - did Clytie Leucothea defame.
Cursed she was to gaze into the sun's glare.

Leucothea burned at a stake in a flare.
Clytie pined for Helios without shame.
Sunflower accursed to stand and stare.

Angered Helios at this state , unfair,
Turned her to flower - Helianthus fame .
Cursed she was to gaze into the sun's glare.

She stares at the sun with no one to care,
At night she weeps with her remorse laid bare.
Sunflower, accursed, to stand and stare,
Cursed she was to gaze into the sun's glare.
